Description

Photonics plays a key role in a growing number of medical technologies, which include non-invasive diagnostic techniques, advanced imaging technology and many therapeutic forms. Some examples of their applications include photodynamic therapies to treat cancer, pulse oximetry, laser surgery, infrared spectrometry, optical coherence tomography, advanced microscopy and laser treatments in dermatology, to name just a few.

The International Center for Scientific Debate has collaborated with the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) to organize the Light for Health work session, which will bring together clinical professionals and expert researchers from various disciplines that all study and work with light with complementary approaches and scales. The aim is to develop new tools and technology with biomedical applications that involve light as a key element.

The second edition of Light for Health will focus on applied photonics in two main areas of research: light for neurology and neurosciences (20 May) and light for oncology (31 May).
